Picasso et Manuel Pallares

1979-1982

About the Item

Donning togas of blue and red and wearing laurel wreaths on their bald heads, Pablo Picasso and his life-long friend Manuel Pallarès sit beside one another as they smoke cigarettes and hold a horn of wine in the air. The smiles on their faces and the happiness at their time spent together reflects the seventy-year friendship between the two artists, both of whom died within one year of the other. A lithograph from the Marina Picasso Estate Collection after the Pablo Picasso painting "Picasso et Manuel Pallares". The original painting was completed in 1960. In the 1970's after Picasso's death, Marina Picasso, his granddaughter, authorized the creation of this lithograph by Laurent Marcel Salinas, who worked closely with Picasso during his lifetime. The limited edition print run was completed and published by Marina Picasso in conjunction with Jackie Fine Arts in 1982. The lithograph is printed on French Arches paper, ink-stamped by the Estate verso, and hand-signed and numbered by Marina Picasso on the recto. The embossed seal of the Estate is lower right and the printer's chop, lower left.
