Thomas Ranft is an award-winning draftsman and printmaker based in Germany whose works have been extensively exhibited on a national level, as well as in Switzerland and the United States. Inspired by his love of literature and music, he describes himself as always having been overwhelmed by the "fantastic detail" .
Thomas Ranft was born in war torn Germany in Königsee (Thüringen) in 1945 and initially trained as an horticulturist. From 1967 to 1972 he then attended the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig Germany. From 1976 on he undertook various print projects for contemporary artists. In 1979 he was one of the founding members of the artist group/gallery CLARA MOSCH. He is now being noticed and after collaboration with gallerist Gunar Barthel in 2003, he receives his first major award for his ‘ Idee vom Anderssein’ the coveted Hans Theo Richter-Preis of the Sächsischen Akademie der Künste.
Ranft enjoys prolific representation on the major European art fairs, such as the Art Basel, Arco Madrid, Art etc.
From 1976 up to the present Thomas Ranft has regularly held numerous solo and group exhibitions mainly in Germany, Switzerland and the United States.
Today examples of his fantastic work are kept in many important private and public collections.
