Amy Cheng
Amy Cheng, "Broaching the Subject, " flower mandala blue & yellow pigment print

2014

About the Item

'BROACHING THE SUBJECT" is a limited edition (of 30) archival pigment prints of an original oil painting by Amy Cheng. This print is one of the first two paintings I made in the 2010's which expanded to become the Mandala Series. "Broaching the Subject" is contemporary, decorative, bright, cheery, and ornamental. The image brings together the suggestion of a cathedral rose window with Islamic painted tile art. It relates to nature inasmuch as it depicts an ornamental stylized flower. My works are not overtly spiritual or religious but they reward contemplation. "Broaching the Subject" is printed with archival ink on Moab Entrada Natural, 100% rag fine art paper, 290 gsm, acid free. The image size is 26"H x 30"W surrounded by a 3" white border on all sides. The print looks best when this 3" border is left in place (can be covered by a matte when framing) to give the image breathing room. I generally sell the prints unframed and shipped rolled in a tube.

"Many Chambers" is one of a limited edition of 30 prints of an original oil painting by Amy Cheng, and it is part of a Mandala series the artist created in the 2010's. Sumptuous, intricate, ornamented, these oil prints are richly referential. They call to mind a range of associations from mandalas, the cosmos, cells, lace, brocade and more. The artist feels aligned with the long history of geometric and floral ornamentation the Far Eastern, Middle Eastern, and European craftsmen have long employed. They did so with the implicit understanding that pattern and repetition...
