About the Item
Two Pointers Hunting a Pheasant is an original color etching by the well known sporting artist Leon Danchin. Two Pointers, one black and white and one brown and white are in a field pointing a pheasant that is clearly running for its life. This print is in very good condition with a few minor short tears along the outer edges, all confined to the margins and the upper left margin corner chipped. Published by Leon Danchin,Paris and signed in pencil by the artist. There is a smudge below the artists signature that could be from the printer that will not show when matted and framed.
Leon Danchin, born in Lille, France in 1887 began his career as an artist at the age of sixteen when he was accepted by the Salon des Artists in Paris. He eventually became known as one of the finest French animal artists specializing in birds, dogs and horses and is highly valued to this day. In his lifetime he produced over one hundred etchings and lithographs focusing mostly on the sporting life of animals in the field but not exclusively. He was also an accomplished painter and sculptor. He died at the beginning of World War II in Berques where he is buried.
