Blue toned serigraph of a carousel with horses. The work is signed and numbered by the artist. It is not framed but comes with a white matte. Artist Biography: Barbara Maples lived from 1912-1999. Born in Temple, Texas, modernist painter Barbara Maples settled in Dallas. A graduate of Baylor University, she was a student of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She earned a M.A. degree from Columbia University and was a member of the Dallas Print and Drawing Society. Barbara Maples taught art in the Dallas Public Schools, the art school of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and Southern Methodist University where she headed the art education program (1965-1978).

When he was 13, he and his siblings moved to New York City, where he reconnected with his mother in Harlem. Lawrence was introduced to art shortly after that when their mother enrolled him in after-school classes at an arts and crafts settlement house in Harlem, called Utopia Children's Center, in an effort to keep him busy. The young Lawrence often drew patterns with crayons. In the beginning, he copied the patterns of his mother's carpets.
