Good condition, except for some foxing. Charles Amédée de Noé , known as Cham (26 January 1818, Paris – 6 September 1879, Paris), was a French caricaturist and lithographer . Raised by a family who wished for him to attend a polytechnic school, he instead attended painting workshops hosted by Nicolas Charlet and Paul Delaroche and began work as a cartoonist. In 1843, he began to have his illustrations be published in newspapers like Le Charivari , a publication where he was on staff for thirty years. Later works included Proudhon en voyage and Histoire comique de l'Assemblée nationale . He wrote a number of comic plays towards the end of his life.

Arrested for political conspiracy (his family belonged to the Young Italy), he was ordered to leave Naples. In 1859, he was part of the secret or action committee and, in 1860, he participated in the revolutionary movements that favored the entry of Garibaldi into Naples. Following the General, he participated in numerous feats of arms and was also wounded, obtaining a medal. Taking leave of the Mobile National Guards, he directed a newspaper, The Last Judgment...
