Published by Berggruen & Cie, Paris; rendered and printed by de l’imprimerie Daniel Jacomet, Paris, October, 1952. Excerpted from the folio (translated from French), It was taken from this album five hundred and fifty examples including five hundred numbered from I to D And fifty non-commerce examples. The book has been finished printing in July 1953 by Daniel Jacomet et Cie in Paris for the facsimile of the album and by l’imprimerie Union printing in Paris for the text.
TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (1864-1901) was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist, and illustrator whose immersion in the colourful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century allowed him to produce a collection of enticing, elegant, and provocative images of the sometimes decadent affairs of those times. Born into the aristocracy, Toulouse-Lautrec broke both his legs around the time of his adolescence and, due to the rare condition pycnodysostosis, was very short as an adult due to his undersized legs. In addition to his alcoholism, he developed an affinity for brothels and prostitutes that directed the subject matter for many of his works recording many details of the late-19th-century bohemian lifestyle in Paris. Toulouse-Lautrec is among the painters described as being Post-Impressionists, with Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Georges Seurat also commonly considered as belonging in this loose group. He influenced generations of artists including Picasso who had traveled to Paris where he at first imitated Toulouse-Lautrec's style.

In 1959, he received an award at the Vicci International Art Contest. In 1964, he received the Diplome d'Honneur des at Jobiji International Art Show. His retrospective exhibition has been held in many places in Japan. In 2002 the artist died in Japan. He is popular in Japan and several retrospective exhibitions were held in Japan. He was part of the Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga woodblock artists known for their woodcut prints and scrolls. Shin-hanga was an art movement in early 20th-century Japan, during the Taisho and Showa periods, that revitalized traditional ukiyo-e art rooted in the Edo and Meiji periods. He also worked as a book illustrator and did the artwork for the French edition of Le démon doré by Ozaki Kohyo.
