About the Item

Original color printed engraving, embellished by hand from "Anatomical Plates of the Human Body." Edinburgh: 1822-27. John Lizars was a professor of surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and senior surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. One of his pupils was Charles Darwin.
