    The girl who has entered the theatrical profession as a child can be depended upon to lead a clean life when she grows up. She is far, far safer than the girl who enters the profession after childhood.' So wrote John Tiller, whose theatrical school produced the dancing ladies who starred in the original 'Pony Ballet' and whose troupes of 'Tiller Girls' were in great demand for shows not only in London but in Paris, Amsterdam, Turin, and New York. He and Mrs. Tiller began training youngsters at the age of nine. In the schools in London and Manchester, the girls had regular academic studies as well as dancing and were placed in Christmas pantomimes when still children. When they grew up, they were given jobs in various Tiller troupes (each managed by a mature woman who watched out for them)... [This lithograph]... was intended for all of the Tiller Troupe performances. The black type at the bottom was surprinted later to indicate, in this instance, their appearance at the Palais de Glace...
