About the Item
Ross, John T. (American, born 1921) VOYAGE. Collagraph in colors, not dated, but circa 1980s. Edition of 75, numbered 8/75, titled and signed in pencil. 19 x 23 1/2 inches (image) 26 x 29 1/2 inches (sheet). Faint matstain, else in excellent condition.
A Collagraph (collage-graphic) is type of relief print, in which the printing surface is built up by gluing cut cardboard and paper elements to a wood or cardboard backing. The surface is hardened with glue or warnish, and can then be inked and passed through a press, or hand-printed in a manner similar to that used for a woodblock.. By controlling the order in which elements are added, inked and printed, the artist can make multicolored prints, using the same block. Ross is acknowledge as one of the masters of this medium.
