About the Item
Gaspee Down the Line presents a view of Scarborough beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Named for Gaspee Road that empties onto the state beach in Narragansett, RI, this particular area was popularly referred to as “down the line” for the University of Rhode Island students who lived off-campus in the late 1990s. Details include a Climbing Wave; starfish abandoning the sea; melting suns with twirling blue water droplet; and cascading bananas. Gaspee Down the Line was printed with Chris Shore at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, Norwalk, CT.
This print is achieved by several printmaking process which include hard ground etching with aquatint and spit bite (clouds and sky), chine collé (red sun, purple wave, black rock in lower left corner), and screen print (bananas, water droplet, pink sun, starfish, coral beach sand).
