The Lady of Shallott, Signed Digital Photographic Landscape Print on Metal

2020

About the Item

The Lady of Shallott, Signed Digital Photographic Landscape Print, 2020 30" x 20" x 0.5" (HxWxD) Digital Print on Metal Hand-signed by the artist. An almost abstracted seascape color photograph by artist Amanda Lomax, this work has an ominous and solemn feel to it, with a muted color palette of deep teal ocean waters, fading into a gray sky above. The horizon line is completely obscured by a fog that hangs low over the rippling waves of the sea's surface. Digital print on metal. Hangs offset from the wall. Artist Commentary: Inspired by artist Mark Rothko, this collection celebrates subtlety of color through abstracted photographs of the seaside. All pieces in the series are photographed vertically with "portrait" orientation. This achieves the effect of emphasizing the bands of color as well as distancing the image from the traditional, landscape, postcard-style image of a beach. With this series I hope to evoke the viewer's own happy seaside memories. Words that describe this piece: sea, ocean, blue, mist Artist Biography: Born and raised in Nashville TN, Lomax grew up surrounded by the lush nature of the south. Her father is a writer and performer. Her mother is an accomplished visual artist and jewelry designer. Ms. Lomax holds a cum laude degree in Communications from Boston University, completing coursework in Darkroom and digital photography. Since that time a camera has been her constant companion. She was selected as a Teaching Assistant at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and Maine Media College, and spent several summers learning from renowned photographers: Cig Harvey, Joyce Tenneson, Keith Carter, Aline Simpson and Susan Burnstine. Her work uses digital photography, computers and design software to manifest abstract ideas into tangible pieces of art. She has exhibited in group shows in Washington, DC, Nashville, TN and Honolulu Hawaii. She resides in Nashville, Tennessee.

Moving to California in 1998, Schott's work has evolved to include the epic landscapes and deserts of the American West as well as architectural, conceptual and more formal environments from both home and his travels. Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Michael Wolf, Gregory Crewdson, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color. Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man. Frank Schott was born in Cologne, Germany in 1962. He currently lives and works in San Francisco...
