The Oxford Alamanac was an annual almanac published by the Oxford University Press for the University of Oxford from 1674 until 2019. These typically included fine engravings - by artists like Basire, as well as Michael Burghers, JMW Turner and John Piper, as well as information about the university.
James Basire was a prolific English engraver, specialising in architectural prints. A member of the Society of Antiquaries, he was the son of a cartographer, Isaac Basire. His son and his grandson were both named James and indeed both successful engravers, leading to some difficulties in attributing their works.
