Original vintage travel advertising poster published by French Railways SNCF to promote the sleeping carriages available on its overnight services - Une nuit en voiture lits - featuring a great design by the French graphic artist Bernard Villemot (1911-1989) depicting a young lady sleeping on a train bed in front of train windows with the stylised text below in white and blue letters against a deep blue background. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, restored creasing, backed on linen.

Bernard Villemot
Villemot, one of the leading graphic designers in France during the post-war period, is regarded as one of France's most talented twentieth-century poster artists. He was the subject of retrospective exhibitions at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris between 1980 and 2000. Belonging to the movement that moved towards an international graphic style after the Bauhaus and de Stijl, Villemot's advertising clients included Air France, Perrier, Orangina, and Bergasol. His work is characterized by vivid colors, thin outlines, and abstract and organic forms.
