Original vintage cruise travel poster - To South America with Hamburg Sud / Nach Sudamerika mit der Hamburg Sud - featuring stunning artwork by the German painter and graphic artist Ottomar Anton (1895-1976) of the SS Cap Polonio ocean liner on reflective water with the steam rising into the yellow sky, hills and palm trees on the land visible in the background and a sailing boat in the foreground, the bold stylised lettering below with text on a black banner - Hamburg South American Steamship Company / Hamburg Sudamerikanische Dampfschifffahrts Gesellschaft. Launched in 1914 the Cap Polonio steamship served the Hamburg Germany to Buenos Aires Argentina route; she was briefly commissioned as an auxiliary cruiser in WWI then transferred to the UK Government in 1918; after sailing under the management of Union-Castle Line and P&O she was bought back by Hamburg Sud in 1921; in 1931 she was laid up and her interior parts sold to create the luxury Hotel Cap Polonio in Pinneberg Germany; she was scrapped in 1935. Good condition, restored tears, restored pinholes, staining, backed on linen.
