Original vintage advertising poster for The Metropolitan Museum of Art American Wing featuring a great illustration by Thomas Maitland Cleland (1880-1964) of a sunny day outside the grand frontage of the American Wing with people in period clothing, the ladies wearing dresses and carrying parasol umbrellas and the gentlemen wearing suits with top hats and holding walking canes, on the cobble street including an artist sketching by a tree with a girl standing in the shade and a dog sitting behind him, a couple riding in a carriage, children playing, a cat stretching on an awning, people chatting and leaning out of the windows of surrounding buildings. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) opened in 1870; The American Wing opened in 1924 to house their collection of American art. Printed by Peter J Carey & Sons Lith NY. Good condition, restored paper losses, restored tears, restored creases, restored stains, backed on linen.
