In this bright botanical diptych in pulled ink, silkscreen printing, gouache and hand-drawn lines on paper, dark coral red flowers with verdant green leaves and stems are dramatic against a luminous yellow gold background.
Signed, titled, dated and numbered on recto. 30.25 x 35.5 inches (each), 30.25 x 71 inches (diptych) (unframed).
Brooklyn-based artist Nancy Blum uses botanical motifs to create images that are universally associated with growth and continuity, aiming to propel comprehension of the connectedness of all beings within the limitless energy operating throughout this world. Blum's large‐scale works on paper, rendered in ink, colored pencil, gouache and graphite, portray a fantastic realm in which flowers own the space. Using a variety of 16th and 17th-century botanical images, from Chinese plum blossoms to German botanicals, as starting points for each drawing, the artist's obsessive handwork creates intricate layers of visual information to be discovered over time, becoming a seductive meditation for the viewer.
