Published mostly by SST Records - founded by Pettibon's brother and Black Flag guitarist, Greg Ginn, these works shed valuable light on the origin and development of Pettibon’s thematic interests & style; not to mention his evolution into one of the most important artist’s of his generation. In November, the Museum der Moderne Salzburg hosted Homo Americanus, a major survey of Pettibon’s work, encompassing over six hundred works from every part of the artist’s career, a majority of which have never been shown before. This major exhibition was also accompanied by a publication of the same name, documenting these same early works. In February 2017, the New Museum will present 'A Pen of All Work,' a major solo exhibition of Pettibon’s work featuring 700 plus drawings from the 1960s to the present - the artist’s first museum survey in New York and most comprehensive presentation of his work to date. More On Raymond Pettibon Raymond Pettibon’s work embraces a wide spectrum of American “high” and “low” culture, from the deviations of marginal youth to art history, literature, sports, religion, politics, and sexuality. Taking their points of departure in the Southern California punk-rock culture of the late 1970's and 80's and the “do-it-yourself” aesthetic of album covers, concert flyers, comics and fanzines that characterized the movement, his drawings have come to occupy their own genre of powerful and dynamic American commentary.
