About the Item
Leigh Behnke was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1946. She studied at both the Southern Connecticut State College and at the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn New York. She also received her Master of Arts degree from New York University and has been on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts in New York since 1976. Behnke has worked in watercolor, oil, and various print media. Her work has been exhibited at the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum in California; and the San Antonio Museum of Art in Texas, the National Academy of Sciences, D.C., and in other group exhibitions. Her work appears in the collections of numerous corporations and private collections as well as the collections of the New York Public Library, Georgetown University, M.I.T., among others.
