About the Item
"The bottomless depths of a private koi pond in a Sussex garden. Dancing light, rhythmic flow and a scattering of flowers on the surface, all help to convey the dark mystery of a life below the surface." - Valda Bailey
Valda's Southern Song series is part of a larger project that attempts to explore the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi. One of many dictionary definitions defines it, as "a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay." This doesn't even begin to unravel its complexities; indeed, so intangible are its philosophies that many Japanese scholars will only attempt to illuminate its mysteries through the medium of poetry.
Each piece is individually hand finished by the artist with Gold leaf and Copper giving the piece its own unique style.
The beauty of the pieces printed on glass are truly revealed when seen in the flesh, which shimmer in the daylight and change constantly as different light sources are reflected off the print.

Valda Bailey (b.1958) is a British artist and photographer. Her work is greatly informed by her background in painting and influences come as much from artists as photographers. Her intention is less about portraying a literal representation but rather conveying feelings evoked by the landscape and she achieves this using various techniques to blur detail and abstract shapes. "I am primarily driven by an exploration of colour and form. My objective is to bring an emotional element and aesthetic balance to my work. I try to depict the subtleties of the landscape and am happiest making images from the smallest, most insignificant detail - the challenge being to portray the essence of what is about my subject matter that has taken my eye. (...) I have been influenced by many great talents; some of my inspirations include Jay Maisel. Also Raphael Shevelev, Chris Friel, Rob Hudson, Paul Kenny, Dough Chinnery, Fay Godwin, Ernst Haas, Aaron Siskind, Andre Kertesz, Vivian Maier, Sarah Moon, Arnold Newman, Klavdij Sluban, Alexey Titarenko, Charlie Waite to name just a few. Painers whose work I particularly admire include Bonnard, Cezanne, Chagall, Diebenkorn, Kandinsky, Klee, Matisse, Rothko, Picasso, Van Gogh, Frankenthaler and many others." - Valda Bailey Valda's Southern Song series is part of a larger project that attempts to explore the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi. All works are small edition, printed onto museum glass. Each work is individually hand finished by the artist with gold, silver or copper leaf giving the piece its own unique style. Valda Bailey's work has been featured in national and international publications. She has exhibited widely in the UK and in 2015 was the first woman to be invited to join six other photographers to exhibit at the biennial Masters of Vision at Southwell Minster. She has been awarded a direct Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society in January 2020. Her work is held in numerous private art and photography collections.

- Supernova 2 - Sunflower Print on Museum Glass, hand gilded with Citron Gold leafLocated in London, GBSupernova 2, 2017 "The sunflowers displayed here have been chosen, not only because of their golden individuality, but also because, like gold, they seem to have an everlasting quality. They don't readily wither and die but remain timelessly viable; their dazzling petals slowly becoming bronzed and desiccated, their statuesque form, elegantly contorted." Valda Bailey...Category

- ATO>MIC #8, unique warmed toned, Silver Gelatin Abstract Luminogram PrintLocated in London, GBATO>MIC #8, 2020 Unique Gelatin Silver Print/ Luminogram and Photogram technique, Printed on tea infused fibre based paper, Framed: Custom made frame with antireflective UV protective art glass 23 x 18 cm approx. image size 38 x 35.5 cm (Framed) Unique Series: ATO>MIC Signed on verso Provided with the Certificate of Authenticity “The ATO>MIC work started as an attempt to replicate the idea behind still life painting - where you are trying to reproduce the image of solid looking things, things that could be on a shelf. So, I wanted to try doing that with just using light instead of paints - however I soon started to see the similarities with Harold Edgerton’s famous atomic explosion photos and how the scale of my work could be switched between small items on a shelf to enormous atomic explosions. That is the reason behind the strange title ATO>MIC - where the “>” is a kind of link between larger and smaller scales, between the two influencing ideas.” – Mike Jackson The images may be reminiscent of the first milliseconds of atomic bomb explosions captured by Harold Edgerton's Rapatronic camera in the early 1950s but also visualise the thought of Maholy-Nagy’s bold visions in the Bauhaus’s movement toward the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk, or “total work of art.” The 3D concepts that were first expanded in the same art movement by El Lissitzky a hundred years ago, are also explored here by Jackson’s drowned thin line within the third of the image. In his vision, the line reflects a shelf with the object on top, by adding the weight to it, the gravity pushing them down. Or maybe the thin line is just the horizon, where the enormous atomic blast took place…? Beyond these flat forms of two dimensional ‘lumino-graphic’ works on paper, the purest form of photography (‘light drawing’) lays a visible path to three-dimensional imaginary world, realised in precise composition, rhythm and warm earthy tones of these works. It’s up to the viewer to decide what they prefer to see and take with them. As Wassily Kandinsky once said; “Imagination is what allows your mind to discover.” About the Artist: Michael G Jackson...Category

- Original-Sunlit-Spring in Autumn Abstract-Expression-Gold Leaf-UK Awarded ArtistLocated in London, GBArtist's Lifetime Warranty. --This stunning painting is a part of The 'Sunlit' series -an exploration of the colour yellow and its healing effect to the ones who were impacted by grief. This is one of Shizico Yi's personal favourites for its subtle changing of the golden tones when viewing in different time of the day. The pictorial language in this series pays homage to Japanese Woodblock prints. In her latest series, titled 'Prayers,' Shizico employs various type of Dahlias as symbols of peace. Dahlias, which bloom in autumn, brighten up the garden amidst the early winter chill, symbolizing regeneration and hope for life. The name of the painting is a reference to a poem by Du Fu (712-770 AD), one of his poignant poems that portrays the landscape in his hometown. After nature reclaims the places where people once lived. Through these paintings in Prayer series, Shizico aims to convey her heartfelt prayers in times we live. It's also a form of self-reflection on the role of the artist in society. *Royal Mail Delivery Worldwide, guarantee with End to End International Tracking.
