Trantenroth completed his studies at the Münster Art Academy under Ulrich Erben (1991–1993) and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy (1993–1996). He finished his studies as a master class student with Jan Dibbets . As part of his studies, he spent a year on a scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris . He was also a participant in the graduate scholarship of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia with the “silencer” project (1998–2000).
After completing his studies, Trantenroth worked as a freelance artist. The following years were characterized by participation in international projects and stays abroad, including a one-year stay in New York (2003/2004).
Trantenroth was visiting professor at the Leibniz Universität Hannover in the architecture / painting department (2005/2006), where he later returned as a lecturer (2009/2014). Since 2015 further teaching positions have followed at the Berlin University of the Arts . In 2017 Trantenroth was appointed professor for painting / graphics at the University of Fine Arts in Essen . The artist received numerous grants, including a. the work grant Kunstfonds Bonn 2011, the work grant of the Hans and Charlotte Krull Foundation in Berlin 2012, as well as the residence grant in the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, funded by the Ministry of Education and Research Brandenburg 2018.
In addition to independent artistic work, Trantenroth has been realizing numerous art in architecture projects since 2006 . In 2017 he received the first prize for his mural design for the Humboldt Forum in the Berlin Palace (location: stairwell above portal 5).
