About the Item
For sale is the highly sought-after collaboration between renowned Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei and German home improvement store Hornbach, Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way. This self-assembly soft sculpture consists of interlinked high-visibility jackets that are zipped together to form a circle, resembling the ghost of huddled bodies. The work references two of Ai’s early works from the 1980s that featured army raincoats zipped together and speaks to the highly political issue of migration and refugees.
Included in this sale are a booklet and 7 safety jackets, which will enable you to create any of these versions. Please note that you will need to purchase your own hardware, such as wall hooks, to complete the installation.
The manual included in this sale doubles as an artist publication and includes a statement by Ai Weiwei about the piece, an interview with curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, and a certificate of authenticity. The artist was inspired by the invitation from Hornbach to create an original work and describes selecting the components in the DIY store as being like “a child in a candy shop.” Unlike many of Ai’s sculptures, which are made in China, the components of Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way are made in Germany.
Take part in this public art campaign and become the owner of an original Ai Weiwei. As the artist himself says, “Art belongs to everyone. Everyone can be an artist, or has the opportunity to create art,” invoking the spirit of Joseph Beuys. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of art history.

- Warm Thoughts (Geisha and Skull) Resin SculptureLocated in Draper, UTFor sale is a stunning sculpture entitled "Warm Thoughts" by the talented artist Death and Milk. This piece is a unique and thought-provoking work of art that will captivate and intrigue anyone who lays eyes on it. The artist, Death and Milk, began creating art as a way to cope with mental health issues, and this sculpture is a testament to the power of art to transform one's mood and outlook on life. The sculpture depicts a gentle geisha who appears to be lost in thought, but upon closer inspection, the viewer will notice that her tender demeanor is juxtaposed with the harsh skull upon which she sits. The sculpture invites the viewer to contemplate the duality of human nature and the conflicting emotions that can exist within the mind of a person. The geisha's warm thoughts are contrasted by the anger and rage that fuels her mind, turning the inside of her skull red...Category
