Artist Biography:
Beverly Morrison (Los Angeles, Ca) is an American artist, graduated from California State University of Long Beach with B.A. in Studio Arts, emphasizing in sculpture. She developed a relationship with the “art of making” from a very young age; inspired by her parents who are a dynamic combination of artistic skills and analytical thinking. She grew up in a rich environment of creativity and resourcefulness while cultivating a vigorous appreciation of working with one’s hands. The most profound lesson of her childhood, however, came from her mother; who, from a very young age, taught Beverly the ‘art of observation’. With this education in hand, a lifetime of studying details, patterns and connections to the world around us became an everyday practice. Leading her to develop a long-lasting fascination towards the natural world, looked upon as one endlessly varied sculpture, and became the foundation of her art-making. During her years of study in college and abroad, Beverly became enamored with many sculptors: Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore for their ability to communicate so much with so little. Rodin and Giacometti for their raw expressive textures. Bernini for his ability to transport his admirers to a state of emotional bliss. All of these attributes would affect her intensely and embedded themselves in her aesthetic mind for years to come. Although her love affair with clay didn't start until years after college, it seemed an inherent choice given her affection for nature. Clay, especially, has its own voice and vitality. Combining these characteristics with elements of form, rhythm and texture studied and gathered from natural objects; Beverly finds a never-ending well of inspiration for her work as she strives to create tactile relationships and emotional environments between her sculpture and the observer.

Beverly Morrison
Los Angeles based sculptor Beverly Morrison has been honing her skills in clay for the last two decades, referring to her work as Modern Day Relics. Celebrating the rawness of clay while incorporating Eastern philosophies of imperfect beauty, she allows cracks, crevices and textures to play center stage through her minimalistic forms and vessels. A process-oriented person, Beverly pays homage to her muse, mother nature, by mixing and developing her own clay bodies, participating in the “sculptural dance” from conception. She earned a BA in Studio Arts from California State University of Long Beach, but her greatest accomplishments in clay have emerged from a wellspring of deep intuition and self-education, guided by inspiration found in the natural world.

- Walter Midener "Contemplation" Seated Figure Clay Sculpture Mid-Century ModernLocated in Detroit, MISALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Contemplation” is an abstract clay sculpture of a female. The figure has both arms and legs extended, but the dignified pose suggests an intimate rather than a sexual moment. The sculpture is delicately rendered, but monumental in pose and clean composition reminiscent of the English artist Henry Moore. The surface is warm and slightly rough to the touch. This sculpture is in the round and beautifully balanced geometrically with the hands clasped behind the head forming a slightly flattened polygon shape that is echoed in the positioning of the legs and draped fabric of a presumed dress. The figure draws the viewer into her contemplation, peace and confidence. An exceptional piece by Midener. Walter Midener...Category
