Delphine Grandvaux
"Obéole", Hand-Knitted Airy Transparent Pendant Golden Grey Metallic Sculpture

2022

About the Item

This airy sculpture is entirely hand-knitted from a brass golden wire and a galvanized iron grey wire by its creator Delphine Grandvaux. This artwork depicts three harmoniously balanced birds' nests with a small Oriental touch (probably due to the golden brass color associated to its shape). The small mesh of this artwork gives it a certain visual density. Each of the three central volumes contains a brass mesh ball removable from its shell. This artwork is simply to be hung on the ceiling. Delphine Grandvaux is a French sculptor. Motivated by her desire to create light and airy artworks, she developed a unique artistic approach, based on a similar technique of mesh from the metal wire as Ruth Asawa, although in a more dynamic way. In the mesh working of Delphine Grandvaux, the metallic threads, sometimes associated with other light materials like wood, wool, etc., seem to be tamed by the power of her technique and by her freedom of imagination. They transform themselves under the hands of the artiste into voluminous organic and dynamic forms, fine and refined, with fluid movements inside as well as outside the artwork. Playing with light and shadow, the transparent or semi-transparent forms created by the artist are truly evocative of poetry, delicacy, and elegance.
