About the Item
This pedestal sculpture is finely hand-crafted in fabricated bronze, as opposed to cast, and is therefore one-of-a-kind and not an edition. With the artist’s beautiful, rich, dark patina with bluish details and metallic tinges.
Gerard Tsutakawa’s designs are a confluence of the cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim. Tsutakawa grew up with a rich heritage of Japanese design creativity and sensibility combined with a lifetime spent in the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful natural environment. Exposure to the esthetics of cultures around the Pacific Rim instilled a humanistic approach to his creative process. He gathers images as bold as a Tongan war club, or as sensitive as folded origami paper, and creates a subliminal integration as a new art form.
Tsutakawa apprenticed with his father, the late George Tsutakawa, for ten years. He then oversaw all of his father’s fountain and sculpture fabrication and installation, including many major public works. Since this early apprenticeship, he has established himself as an accomplished sculptor in his own right and has been featured in solo and group shows throughout the Northwest. He has been recognized for his sensually abstract bronze sculpture and his elegant bronze fountains of flawless design and beauty.
Gerard Tsutakawa has completed numerous monumental corporate, institutional, and state commissions throughout the Northwest and Japan. Recurrent forms in Tsutakawa’s work include series of steps and repetitions of curves, which often combine to create a dynamic tension before allowing the essential balance to come through and transform the experience into one of deep serenity.

- "Receiving (72-inch)" abstract bronze sculptureLocated in Glen Ellen, CACast bronze sculpture with classic green patina on black marble base. Edition of 3 at this size. Other sizes and patina finishes are also available by commission, please inquire for more details. Pisapia's "Expedition Series," inspired by sea voyages, is about meeting life’s challenges with courage and purpose. It connects to the idea expressed by J.W. Goethe: “Character is formed in the stormy billows of the world.” Taking up life’s tasks can require one to go against the wind. The feeling of determination to achieve and continue steering through obstacles is poured into the pure forms; a dynamic balancing of the straight and curve on different axes. "With a rounded starting point," Pisapia explains, "I add on a variety of disparate angles, diverse curves, and twisting planes. I carve and smooth the surfaces, bringing out particular tensions and transitions." Flavius Valone Pisapia is an Italian-Romanian artist born in Bucharest in 1981. He completed his higher education in the UK, with an MA in Transpersonal Arts & Therapy, 2014; a Diploma in Transformative Arts, 2011; and a BA (Hons) in Film and Video, 2005. Pisapia studied sculpture throughout his higher education and appreciated several sculptor mentors in the UK. Since 2016, he has resided in India, where he is currently an artist in residence at Studio Sukriti in Jaipur. He has had several solo exhibitions in India and his artwork is found in private collections worldwide. "It's important for me to experience the world at a deeper level by penetrating the veil of the senses. Through an immersive process the essence, beauty and the pure form of an idea are gradually revealed to me. The emerging awareness flows into my artwork imbuing it with a higher reality. To achieve this awareness in my creative process, I go through three stages: imagination, inspiration and intuition." - Flavius PisapiaCategory

- "Moonlight" unique bronze sculptureBy Gerard TsutakawaLocated in Glen Ellen, CAMany of Gerard Tsutakawa’s home-sized sculptures, and some of his public ones, have a geometric window that allows the viewer to go through and beyond the form. In “Moonlight,” this small circle becomes the moon and one can go through its phases simply by moving from side to side, the highly polished edges of the circle’s edges mimicking delicate moonlight peering through the night of the dark patina surrounding it. "Moonlight" is finely hand-crafted in fabricated bronze, as opposed to cast, and is therefore one-of-a-kind rather than an edition. Finished with the artist’s rich, dark patina with bluish tinges and a polished inner circle. Gerard Tsutakawa’s designs are a confluence of the cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim.
