Joe Garnero
Twist of Fate

2022

About the Item

Joe Garnero’s medium of choice for his winding abstract wood sculptures is reclaimed Redwood roots, which he finds along the northern California coast. The distinct curving shapes of these roots act as a catalyst for his sculptural inspiration. Just as every tree and set of roots are unique, each of his sculptures is one of a kind. Garnero shapes each sculpture with hand tools, allowing for a more delicate approach to preserve the integrity of the natural forms. This one-of-a-kind original 38 inch tall by 12 inch wide and 10 inch deep redwood sculpture is mounted onto a painted redwood base and is ready to be displayed. The sculpture is finished with a semi-gloss wax and signed by the artist on the bottom. Size and price include stand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental US and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Garnero is based in Healdsburg, California. He was born in Monterey, California to a family of craftsmen, builders, bakers, potters, and sculptors. Garnero has been influenced by the work of his wood sculptor grandfather whose studio was on the property where he grew up. “The end result represents my depiction of what has taken hundreds of years to form. This inherent form is part of what I follow and the direction I take to end up where I end up. These pieces are forces of nature that are strong, graceful, and enduring. ” The materials Garnero uses are ethically acquired through salvaged sources. The use of hand tools plays the biggest role in his work as it allows for a more delicate approach to preserve the integrity of the natural forms. This combination is the basis and inspiration for all of his work. • Circle 11 - Dichromatic Glass Sculptural Artwork
    By Chris Wood
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Wood uses a range of high and low-tech optical materials to harness patterns of light that suggest ephemeral glimpses of moments in the natural world. Her minimalist sculptures are simple arrangements creating kinetic patterns in response to the environments in which they are placed. The artist often uses a material called dichroic (meaning “two color”) glass, which was developed by NASA in the 1950's. Dichroic glass has a special optical coating meant to reflect certain wavelengths of light while letting others through, creating beautiful projections of light and color depending on the environment in which the artwork is placed. This 20 inch square sculptural artwork...

In exploring the redeployment of materials, his multi-layered geometric wall sculptures primarily comprise the discarded wood off-cuts from CNC machines. The recycled ethos, meanwhile, continues through the use of disposed-of paint samples, old paste tables and plasterboard scraps. The unique relief compositions that emerge subtly experiment with both light and form, resulting in works rich with depth and pattern, while drawing comparisons to anything from the inner workings of industrial machinery...
