Flying - large, glass, translucent, white, feathers, wall sculpture

2014

About the Item

This exquisite glass wall sculpture extends almost 60 inches across. It was featured in Robinson's solo exhibition at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. It evokes a remarkable sense of movement, both through the imagery of the feathers flying in a circular motion, but also through the energy of the light and shadows that are reflected on the wall. Available on commission. Size can vary. Can be premounted on panel or installed directly on wall. Please allow 6-8 weeks for commission before shipping. Robinson was educated at the Georgian College of Arts and Technology and the Ontario College of Art, where he later taught for a number of years. Robinson is a Fellow of The Creative Glass Center of America, recipient of the Joan Chalmers Glass Award and has twice received the Best Glass Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Robinson has had solo exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Palm Beach, Quebec City and Chicago. His works are in corporate, private and public collections including the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo, the Museum of American Glass, New Jersey, the Toronto Granite Club and the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. • Probability Deep Blue 2 - abstract, curved, glass, suspended wall sculpture
    By John Paul Robinson
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
Canadian artist John Paul Robinson has chosen a deep blue for this elegant glass wall sculpture. Six arched pieces of translucent glass are suspended by fine steel cables…each crisscrossing the other in a graceful composition. His glass work is inspired by nature’s elements—earth, wind, fire and water—all of which sustain life. For Robinson, this piece is symbolic of an iconic physics experiment that explored the dual nature of light. Light exhibits both particle and wave-like behaviour. “It’s important to me that my work be about something. So, I spend a lot of time reading, writing and basically researching ideas (often science-based) and issues that inform my work.” John Paul Robinson He was educated at the Georgian College of Arts and Technology and the Ontario College of Art where he later taught for several years. His works are in corporate, private and public collections throughout North America. Robinson is represented exclusively by Oeno Gallery.

    By David Ruth
    Located in Oakland, CA
'Norsel 2' is a contemporary cast glass sculpture by David Ruth from the Chill Project Series. This sculpture is made from up of soda glass mixed with cobalt to create the ice blue color. The piece is initially derived from textures taken off ice and rock in Antarctica. These textures were combined, molded, then cast in glass to create the form. The combination of the geology and glass show the close connection to time and the evolution of our planet. About "Norsel 2' in David's Words: "This block was the first piece I made upon my return from Palmer Station, Antarctica. The project was to take texture molds of the glacier ice and stone for later use in compositing sculptures in the studio. The central texture in Norsel was taken from a granitic rock...
