About the Item

ACCIDENTS Pink (2024) MATERIAL Painted acrylic resin / Volcanic stone DIMENSIONS 35 x 15 x 15 cm Signed About the Artist José Luis Meyer (1981) is a contemporary sculptor. He has a masters degree in industrial design from TU-München in Germany and a background in mechanical engineering. JL Meyer has lived in Germany, Austria and Mexico, collaborated with architects, worked with designers, produced jewelry and furniture collections, yet his true passion lies in abstract sculpture. His first sculptures were assembled at an early age from industrial scrap recollected at a family business. Although JL Meyer did not study art formally, in 2007 he managed to establish a workshop and studio in Mexico City, focused on material reuse and form experimentation. His creations are geometric, playful and clear lined; mostly handmade though undergoing hi-tech processes at the same time. Meyer's career in sculpture took off in 2009 when he presented the series “esCOOLtura” at The Nasher Sculpture Center Store, which invited the public to use their imagination to create individual compositions. Over the years JL Meyer acquired manufacturing and creative skills to dedicate full time to sculpture. Since 2021 he signed representation with contemporary art galleries in Mexico and U.S.A., where he exhibits and sells unique pieces. In 2022, JL Meyer won a competition by Deloitte Mexico to create 130 sculptures as awards. INIDIVIDUAL EXHIBITIONS 2009 Meet the Artist JL Meyer, Nasher Sculpture Center Store, Dallas, U.S.A. 2009 Sculptures, Arróniz / Berrueta Arte Proyectos, Monterrey, Mexico COLLECTIVE EXHIBITIONS 2023 Design Week México, Design House with Asho + Estudio Actual, Mexico City, Mexico 2023 Colectiva Ruta 216, Galería L, CDMX 2023 Grand Opening, Avant-Art Gallery, Houston, U.S.A. 2023 Soft Opening, Avant-Art Gallery, Houston, U.S.A. 2023 39th Open Exhibition (Juror: Heidi Vaughan), Visual Arts Alliance, Houston, U.S.A. 2008 Talentos: Edición Limitada, Galería Mexicana de Diseño, CDMX 2007 Diamantina, Galería Mexicana de Diseño, CDMX RECOGNITIONS 2022 Won Competition by Deloitte Mexico to make 130 sculptures as an award to the best Mexican companies (Mejores Empresas Mexicanas) PAST EXHIBITION / SALE VENUES Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Germany Circuit 12 Gallery, Dallas, U.S.A. Resin cast geodes and cracked slate in a wooden frame by Paige Smith. This piece measures 18in x 18in, with a depth of 1-5/8in. Paige Smith AKA A Common Name, is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Smith is most notable for creating “Urban Geode,” a street art series of sculptures that resemble geodes, made entirely of paper and resin casts. Always interested in geology, Smith started to notice the nooks and crannies in the sides of buildings, walls, and abandoned phone booths within her community of the Historical Arts District (in Los Angeles). Seeing this as an opportunity to create, Smith took street-art to a whole new level. Since beginning the project, she has created large-scale installations for well-known brands such as The Standard, Hollywood; The Viper Room...
