About the Item
‘Juxtapose Red & Grey’ is an abstract kinetic art sculpture created by Venezuelan artist Jose Margulis in 2017. Featuring a palette made of red, white and dark grey, this plexiglass & aluminum composite sculpture features a juxtaposition of lines, whose subtle variation of height and colors creates a combination of geometrical shapes. The minimalist quality of this piece infuses it with a sense of simplicity while the kinetic approach plays with our eye beautifully. Walking along the piece will allow you to embrace it fully. With its exquisite flowing 3D movement and nice proportions, this kinetic 2017 abstract sculpture will be a strong focal point in any room, whether placed above a sofa, console table or enfilade.
Jose Margulis was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1970. He traces his love of art to his studying photography as a young man before working for his family’s digital printing business. Today he begins most of his pieces as a digital creation which he then brings to life in a 3D world. Most of his work is created with acrylic sheets of various colors, textures, shapes and levels of translucency. “I treat my three-dimensional pieces as light traps or secret blueprints, in which by controlling the placement of its components, I’m able to create intriguing 3-D containers.” The patterns and shapes of his pieces come alive based on the angles and intensity and saturation of light at any moment, or throughout the day.
Jose tends towards a bright and fully saturated color palette which is heavily influenced by the traditional Mexican arts and craft he frequently saw while living there. Today he lives in and works in Miami, a city that very much reflects his attraction to bright colors and vibrant energy.
