About the Item
sculptural glass vase no.4 (horizontal) of 4 unique pieces of volume III
approximate dimensions: Ø 4 x 30 cm length
Shaped by fire collection of glass vessels represents movement in time, the simultaneity of the past and the future.
The making process is a captivating synergy of elements — the tiniest details of a momentary structure of burning wood are captured with molten hot glass, continuously changing shape.
Hand-crafted in Finland.
The technique of achieving carbonised wood texture in glass is inspired by Timo Sarpaneva’s Finlandia collection from 1965-71.
The wooden mould changes continuously during the glass blowing process and eventually burns down. A sequence number is assigned to each piece, and due to the design and the technique, each object is one of a kind, and its shape, texture, dimensions, and weight differ, as if it would be grown from the earth. Moulds for glassblowing are made out of local timber consciously selected by the artist to achieve a variety of structures.
Material: clear glass (lead-free crystal). Mould making, hot work, cold work: by the artist herself. Hot work, mouth blowing into a wooden mould: by Finnish glass masters in Nuutajärvi, the oldest glass blowing village in the Finnish forest.
Charred wooden mould is not included, it is for illustration purposes only.
