About the Item

"As an artist, I am fascinated by the inherent balance and symmetry possible in geometric structures, which reflect the order and structure underlying the natural world. By embracing these forms, I strive to create a sculpture that conveys a sense of harmony, balance, and serenity. At the same time, I am captivated by the expressive potential of abstract figurative sculpture. The human form, stripped of literal representation, can convey a sense of universality and connection. Through simplification and abstraction, I aim to distill the essence of the human form, inviting viewers to explore the tension between the geometric and the figurative. Combining these two influences, my artistic practice is driven by a desire to create works that resonate with people from all walks of life. I aspire to offer moments of contemplation, inviting viewers to engage with the sculptures and discover their own personal narratives within the forms." - Kevin Kelly. Kevin Kelly was born in upstate New York and graduated from Pratt Institute in 1982. He has been living and working in Dumbo, Brooklyn, since 2007. He has shown his work across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Santa Fe, and Westport. His work is in numerous collections, including Simon Cowell in Los Angeles. His piece Solar Powered Cell Phone Charger, was installed in Brooklyn Bridge Park as part of the 2012 Dumbo Arts Festival. His 10-meter-high permanent outdoor sculpture DodecaCaryatid was installed in Markham, Ontario, in December 2015. He completed a commission for a 13 ft high version of his dice double helix sculpture entitled Double Down in 2018, also in Markham, Ontario. His work is included in the collection of the NYU Medical Center. His sculpture has also been featured in films and network tv shows such as The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Duplicity, Arthur, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Remember Me.
