Mari-Ruth Oda
Mari-Ruth Oda graduated with a MA in art and design ceramics from the University of Wolverhampton and earlier with a BA Hons in three-dimensional design from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Her work is exhibited in Europe, Australia and Japan and is part of many private and public collections. She was an East-West Art Award finalist in 2011. In nature, the form seems to repeat itself in differing contexts and scales. Mari-Ruth Oda enjoys abstracting a form out of its context and boiling it down to its bare essence that first attracted her to the form. The shape left is something ambiguous that could be interpreted in many ways. She works from observational drawings and photographs of fruits, vegetables and bones as well as the human figure and landscapes. Through these influences and observations, she explores the anthropomorphic quality of natural forms. She aims to achieve in her forms and situations, tactile quality that is serene and calm.

- Nocturnal Parts - abstract geometric contemporary modern painting reliefLocated in Doetinchem, NLNocturnal Parts is a unique one-of-a-kind contemporary modern painting relief by Dutch artist Sander Martijn Jonker. It is a relief consisting of two open spherical parts with an intriguing matte black finish, perhaps a bit mysterious but very beautifully made. It can be hanged in two different ways, with the opening between the two spherical elements either facing away or facing the observer. Depending where the light comes from one might decide for the one or the other hanging method. Sander Martijn Jonker (1977, Netherlands) graduated from the St. Joost School of Art & Design in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. He primarily makes three-dimensional reliefs that play with the tension between abstraction and representation, surface and space. Light, shadow and their elusive ever-changing properties play an important role. Although the resulting works are abstract, he uses everyday reality as a starting and/or reference point. His work is created through forms of manipulation, distortion, repetition and simplification. Some works arise from the repetition of a simple movement or form, others are made by exploring how far he can go with the deformation and manipulation of the material, after which he captures and preserves the shape. He experiences daily life as uncontrollable and at times confusing. In order to cope with that, he is always looking for patterns and has gradually developed various rituals and ways of control, hoping they can offer him certainty and reassurance. His work and person are inextricably connected. He makes the things he makes because he doesn’t have a choice. He is trying to get a grip...Category
