About the Item
Original ceramic sculpture by Noe Kuremoto.
Inspired by the prehistoric Japanese Dogū figures from the Jōmon period, the decorated clay forms traditionally feature exaggerated eyes, hips and breasts and are thought to be symbols of fertility.
In her latest collection of blue Dogu Ladies, Kuremoto creates objects of courage for modern women navigating the challenges of motherhood whilst sustaining a demanding career.
“My Dogu Ladies are a salute to the strength of the career mother, her resilience and determination. Recognition that what she does is without historical precedent - with no past to guide us, these vases are a talisman for the history we create ourselves.”
Noe Kuremoto is a Japanese ceramic artist based in Hackney, east London. She creates one-off sculptural vases from clay, inspired by the natural world and memories of childhood.
