Shayne Dark
Maelstrom Series No 3 - layered, intersecting, forged aluminum wall sculpture

2022

About the Item

Canadian sculptor Shayne Dark creates uniquely beautiful abstract pieces often inspired by nature. This new series called Maelstrom (a whirlpool in a sea or river) is a nod to the tumultuous times experienced by the world over the last two years. This arresting wall sculpture in celery green is hand forged from a series of small round aluminum rods layered in a circular wreath-like form. The dynamic energy of this piece is so palpable it almost appears to be in motion. “In my studio, I had a forced solitude with no interruptions, giving me plenty of time to experiment with materials that I had on hand. I started to bend aluminium rods into circular shapes until I had hundreds of elements tossed in a pile in the corner of my studio. The large haphazard heap of material had this spontaneous energy and movement. Eventually, I started to envision vortexes and maelstroms.” Shayne Dark He was the artist in residence at the Brooklyn botanic garden in 2016 following a successful residency at the Albright Knox and Buffalo botanical garden in 2015 and a feature article on his work in Sculpture magazine. At Art Basel, Dark was named one of the top ten artists to watch. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate, and public collections.

Atticus Adams' organically composed modern metal sculptures embody the transformative power of contemporary art, illustrating the creation of beauty, meaning, and emotional impact from industrial materials. Using mostly aluminum mesh—generally found in screen doors, windows, and filters—he creates contemporary abstract sculptural artworks and installations, which resemble flowers, clouds, and other natural phenomena. Working in metal, Adams effortlessly transforms rigid material into airy, effervescent artworks. This 48-inch high by 44-inch wide and 4-inch deep metal sculpture is a lightweight form. It is created from aluminum and copper mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, and wire. It has metal rings affixed on the back which allows for easy installation. Atticus works spontaneously, feeling his way toward the objects that take shape in his mind as he shapes them almost entirely by hand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Atticus grew up in West Virginia, steeped in traditional folk art. Several members of his family are self-taught artists, deeply involved in such crafts as wood carving and quilting. His formal art training includes stints at Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard’s School of Architecture. Atticus has fond summer memories of screened-in porches back home and screen doors that practically dissolved the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the warmth and nature to permeate each day. This association continues to resonate in his art. “Metal mesh is a beautiful, flexible material that allows you to explore shadow and transparency in endless ways,” he says. “The material lends itself to these biomorphic shapes, which aren’t necessarily intentional . . . The sculptures seem fragile but are actually quite resilient—like nature itself.” A well-known sculptor, the organically inspired artworks of Atticus Adams are held in public and private collections and are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. • "Crystal Cloud" Wall Piece, Painted Metal, Silver, Chrome, White, Sparkly Black
    Located in Wellesley, MA
Wendy Letven's brilliantly colored abstract wall sculptures and freestanding pieces of painted aluminum are an exciting addition to genres which the artist has extraordinarily reinvigorated with forms that are playful, elegant, sophisticated and unique. Extending approximately 4 - 8 inches from the wall, reflected shadows can also be a marvelous aspect of Letven's works. Occasional and subtle scientific references ( molecules, atoms, astronomy, physics) add gravitas and intellectual weight to works that are pure visual delights - humorous, quite complex and intricate, wildly colorful (or more subdued in black, white and/or silver). Natural is equally influential. Working in sizes as small as 10" high to 10' long, there is an enormous range of possibilities with Letven's sculptures as pedestal and shelf pieces, freestanding works, and very large commissions adaptable to both walls and huge spaces for interior and/or exterior sites: Wendy Letven "Crystal Cloud...
