About the Item

Artist Commentary: This sculpture has always been dear to me. The original was made while I was still in college. This one was reproduced for an exhibition last year. I still hope to one day produce it on an architectural scale. Keywords: abstract geometric sculpture, architectural, contemporary, large scale sculpture, minimal sculpture, site specific, site responsive, site determined, installation, gravity, balance, steel Artist Biography: Brooklyn-based artist Thomas Lendvai transforms everyday construction materials into large-scale, site-responsive, sculptural experiences that celebrate the intrinsic and elemental value inherent within the materials and explore the notion of self. Through his work, Lendvai melds his knowledge of carpentry, taught to him by his father at an early age, with his interest in modernist and post-modernist theory of sculpture and philosophical and scientific definitions of time and space. Lendvai’s site-responsive installations make use of fundamental geometric forms to address concepts of space and time, and to engage audiences through experiential installations that break down the boundary between the art object and the subject and question the notions art, design, and architecture. His work encourages movement and a continuous awareness of a series of nows, allowing for audiences to experience a more tactile engagement with space and self. Lendvai’s sculptures and site-responsive installations have been exhibited in Tokyo, Japan; Chicago, Illinois; Key West, Florida; and more recently in Hoboken, New Jersey; and Brooklyn, New York. He received his BA at SUNY Stony Brook and his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2002. Lendvai is of Hungarian descent and is a first generation American.

  • All That Remains, Abstract Sculpture (Ceramic and Steel), 2020
    By Fred Klingelhofer
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: I constructed this piece from the setters I used to fire the ceramic pieces of another sculpture along with some of the glaze test tiles. When I saw these "scraps" sitting together there was a visual harmony that suggested a new use for them. During those years he enrolled in art workshops and classes at a nearby community college completing courses in figure drawing, 2D and 3D design, ceramics, sculpting the figure, welding and metal sculpture. His focus has been on creating sculpture since 2006. Fred has exhibited his sculpture in a number of group exhibitions with Chicago Sculpture International, Art Prize (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Sculpture in the Park (St Charles, Illinois), Sculpture Walk Sioux Falls...
