Dale Dunning
String Theory - large, black & white, figurative, aluminum wall sculpture

2021

About the Item

Sculptor Dale Dunning creates unique, and inspired metal sculptures using the human head as a metaphor for human experience. This highly detailed piece is made from fine strips of aluminum interwoven to form a human face in profile. Dunning’s heads are ‘generic, non-specific, genderless, egg-like in form and intention.” “The thing I like about the head is it sort of encompasses what we are. We live in our heads…I use the head as a container to suggest what’s percolating underneath.” - Dale Dunning He holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. While earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Mt. Alison University, Dunning studied under Lawren P. Harris (son of Group of Seven member Lawren S. Harris) and George Tiessen. Dunning has exhibited across Canada and his work is held in private, corporate and public collections including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, McIntosh Gallery at Western University, Carleton University Art Collection, and the National Library of Canada.
