John Donovan
Demons of Social Approval no. 3 (the cyclops sees the future)

2023

About the Item

Chasing the spiral of approval can be a dizzying experience. The rounded-cornered form is a subtle reference to a smart phone, the cyclopean eye a nod to the camera that always stares back, often unrecognized. In Greek mythology, the Cyclops could see the future, possibly because the loss of peripheral vision creates focus and reduces distraction. The monolithic eye of industry and technology is ever upon us, recognized or not.
