Joseph GoetheWoman with Lowered Head
About the Item
Joseph Goethe was one of our finest American modernist carvers in wood. He loved to use exotic and or beautiful woods to inspire his compositions which ranged from figurative, to animal or aviary in form - to completely abstract. In this piece he has effectively used the refined grain of Mahogany to depict a female form with her head slightly lowered in reflective thought. It has a lovely and gentle feel about while also being sleek and sophisticated in its forms and shapes.
A delightful piece for a table, desk or mantle or shelf!!! The wood has some cracks in it that are inherent to working in this medium - no repairs. It has a lustrous surface.
From the estate of the artist!!!
The artist had many exhibitions in his lifetime and lived and worked in California.

Piece itself measure 12 1/2 inches and sits on a 3 1/4 inch base and is attached to its base at two points and it is a revolving or rather turning base. The two points on which the toes touch and are secured are striking for how little of the bronze touches the base. It is Fourth in an edition of 13. Albert Wein...Category
