Kevin Box
Stone Paper Scissors (Mini) #65 op/ed

About the Item

Stone Paper Scissors (Mini) op/ed Kevin Box is an internationally-renowned sculptor working in cast bronze, steel, and other metals. His work pushes the boundaries of the casting process and celebrates of the delicacy of paper and the permanence of metal. Box's sculpture is whimsical and elegant, as he invites you to touch and experience the meaning of the work for yourself in a tactile way. As a child, Kevin Box developed a passion for creativity and the graphic arts during summers at his uncle’s design firm. Later, as a college student of graphic arts in New York City working primarily in paper, during a trip to Greece and in the presence of the sculptural longevity of classical antiquity, he began to desire to contribute to the lasting history of art. In a quest to learn the most permanent of fine arts, Box studied at foundries in Texas for three years, a decision which afforded him the freedom of experimentation. Ignited with inspiration, and empowered by a full service studio to work in and a treasure trove of paper found in the warehouse of an old print shop the foundry was renting, he started working with paper again. Box says of his technique: “It took two years of tireless experimentation for me to develop the process of casting paper into bronze, another seven years to perfect, and it continues to evolve today.” Today, Kevin Box’s monumental sculptures can be found around the United States including the city of Paramount, CA, the Austin City Symphony, TX, city of Little Rock, AR, the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington D.C., the African American Performing Arts Center in Albuquerque, NM, and around the world including Perth, Australia, the International Hotel, Morocco, and Oita, Japan.

  • Big Love - Medium
    By Rainer Lagemann
    Located in Miami, FL
Powder-coated stainless steel. Unique. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany on September 14th, 1959, Rainer Lagemann studied in Abitur Albert Einstein Gymnasium from 1965 - 1978. Following this, he enrolled in the University of FH Detmold (1983 - 1987) where he studied Interior architecture and got a sense of himself - learned a lot about design, furniture, architecture and art. It was only in 2005 when Lagemann started welding and found his true passion and special talent for it. Concentrating on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture, Rainer is fascinated by the human body and the classic theme of artistic expression and struggle that has been depicted in all shapes, materials and mediums since the existence of mankind. Rainer's sculptures capture the human body in motion--a freeze frame of classic, timeless gestures and emotions that are both ethereal and concrete. The forms he creates are how one would imagine the grace of a Nureyev or Baryshnikov in mid-flight. Rainer uses hollow metal squares to sculpt the human form, creating works that elicit both the strength and delicacy of the body. Each square represents the trials and tribulations of life, the four corners symbolizing the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual dimension of human beings that form the framework of the spirit and the image of the body. The hollow squares strip away distractions, leaving a powerful vision and exploration of the human body, adding an element of tangible levity and intangible abstraction. With all of Rainer's sculptures there is a secondary layer of beauty, abstraction and mystery. When darkness falls and the lights come on, the exquisite shadows of form, squares, body and spirit cast themselves upon the walls creating a second sculpture of light...
