About the Item
Corten and stainless steel sculpture by Nicole Allen
ArtPark at D’Arenberg exhibition 2018
Ever since the first human scratched in sand an outline of another human, artists have been striving to portray their own interpretation of the human form. Very few have achieved perfection. And nor should they.
It is ‘the’ on-going struggle, of all figurative artists. And like those figurative artists before her, Nicole is constantly striving to explore the many different, and un-expected representations of the human form.
Her works haven’t, nor ever will be confined to just one medium, or one representation.
Whether using stainless or Cor 10 steel, cast aluminium, stone or a combination of all, and whether exploring the use of negative or positive space, this body of work is a retrospective of her continuing figurative journey.

- Tosca, Contemporary Bronze on Sandstone base SculptureLocated in WOOLLAHRA, AUArtist sculptor Taking her art from life and nature, Helena breaks down forms simplifying and playing with the uses of light and shadows. Sometimes staying true to a likeness, which is always the starting point, but sometimes her work will take on a much more abstract nature. Often she uses her experience as a graphic designer to create works with a digital starting point using flat plains that are then assembled into a 3d structure. Originally from the UK, Helena now resides and works in Sydney. Recently she has been working alongside Sculptor John Gardner. One piece that she was recently involved in was a commissioned 7 foot high cast bronze tree. They are presently collaborating on various other projects, as well as creating pieces individually. - Dancer Movement #1, Bronze Sculpture with Patina, Ed 1/10Located in WOOLLAHRA, AULarissa was born in Belogorsk, a small town in Russia and later moved to The Russian FarEast where she spent her early childhood. Her family moved to Moldova and finally settled in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan. At 19 Larissa went off on her own to study art in St Petersburg ( Leningrad ). “Larissa began sculpting in kindergarten from doughy black bread, the only material she could get her hands on. It was just after the war. Russia was still recovering from hard times. Despite the pain from hunger in her tummy, my sister would eat only the breads crust. From the doughy insides, she sculpted a dog, a cat, a tree, but mostly she sculpted the portraits of family members and they were quite recognisable. When Larissa was 12 years old, her artwork won a national competition for children. The picture depicted children of many nationalities dancing together and was chosen to be made into a national post stamp. The organisers of this competition came from Moscow and were determined to make sure that nobody had helped my sister. They couldn’t believe that little girl can draw like that” -Yakov Smagarinsky (brother) At 14 Larissa went to the Art College to study painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, perspective, geometry and literature in Dushanbe Art College where she obtained her diploma. Later she continued her education in St Petersburg where she received a Master Degree in architectural, decorative and monumental sculpture. Her first commissioned sculptures were carved oak based on Russian folklore...Category
