Pedro Quesada Sierra
Man Standing, 21st Century Contemporary Wooden Sculpture by Pedro Quesada Sierra

2019

About the Item

This ceramic buste is made by Spanish artist Pedro Quesada Sierra. The Spanish sculptor, despite his only 39 years, is already a lot of laureate artist. In March 2018 he received, from the hands of the Spanish Queen Sofia, the largest art prize in Spain. Pedro Quesada received his education at the art academy of Madrid. After this training, where he immediately became a great talent, from 2003 to 2011 he was assistant to the great Spanish artist Antonio Lopez Garcia. As of 2011, Quesada works independently and has mainly created a furore as a sculptor. His drawings and paintings are also very special. Recently, in Spain, he again made publicity with these drawings. We show this exhibition of images of the Spanish artist. The sculptures are made of bronze, ceramics and resin. Quesada is able to give a stillness in his sculptures. Both the design, posture and composition of the images are, just like the way in which the images are patinated or colored, special and recognizable for the artist. The atmosphere that the images conjure up creates an atmosphere of stillness in the gallery that is very special. This sculpture in particular is

  • Lost in reflexion
    By Guillaume Lachapelle
    Located in Montreal, Quebec
Text by Terence Sharpe There is a moment in Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris (1972) when the character Hari commits suicide by drinking liquid oxygen. As she is not actually a human, but an artificial hybrid product of the mysterious planet and the protagonists’ memories, she heals rapidly and is alive again minutes later. Her choice to take her own life is poignant, seemingly the action of a being becoming aware of its hopeless infinitude. Her realization that while the men will die on the space station or elsewhere, her existence is that of immortality, a deeply alienating notion that causes her to seek her own destruction. The Montreal artist Guillaume Lachapelle has one work that prompts a sense of eternal alienation that echoes Hari’s tragedy. The work greets the viewer with a empty doorway flanked by clinically white bookshelves...
