Umbero Del Negro"Volti (Faces)", Colorful Ceramic Pottery Charger, Psychological Nature Work1978
1978
About the Item
"Volti", Italian for the word "faces", is a playful ceramic pottery charger that makes an exquisite table piece or decorative object to hang for any home due to it colorful and naturalistic depiction of a face. The piece marries Umberto Del Negro's interest in the natural world and society by creating what a first glance might be a leaf, lily pad, or some other bit of plant on the ground but on a second glance reveals that our brains can quite easily see a face embedded there as well.
Umberto Del Negro was a late 20th Century Italian artist. He was born in 1940. His artwork encompasses multiple mediums from mosaic, sculptures, and paintings. His work's subject matter spans an interest in the natural world and society's relationship to it, themes that he explores through his creative usage of each individual work's medium. The artist passed away in 2017.

- Walter Midener "Contemplation" Seated Figure Clay Sculpture Mid-Century ModernLocated in Detroit, MISALE ONE WEEK ONLY “Contemplation” is an abstract clay sculpture of a female. The figure has both arms and legs extended, but the dignified pose suggests an intimate rather than a sexual moment. The sculpture is delicately rendered, but monumental in pose and clean composition reminiscent of the English artist Henry Moore. The surface is warm and slightly rough to the touch. This sculpture is in the round and beautifully balanced geometrically with the hands clasped behind the head forming a slightly flattened polygon shape that is echoed in the positioning of the legs and draped fabric of a presumed dress. The figure draws the viewer into her contemplation, peace and confidence. An exceptional piece by Midener. Walter Midener...Category

- Balloon Dog (Blue)By Jeff KoonsLocated in Malmo, SEBalloon Dog (Blue) 2021. Porcelain with metallic chromatic coating Limited edition of 69/799 ex. Certificate of authenticity and the original box. Incised signature, edition number, titled and dated on the underside. Produced by Bernardaud, Limoges, France. Jeff Koons is an American pop artist, born in York, Pennsylvania in 1955 to a mother who was a seamstress and a father who worked as an interior decorator. He is known for working with popular culture subjects and for his reproductions of banal objects. His works have sold for important amounts, including one world record auction price for a work by a living artist. Jeff Koons had an early interest in art and as a teenager he admired Salvador Dalí. He studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a student he met the artist Ed Paschke who became a major influence and for whom he worked as a studio assistant in the late 1970’s. In 1977 Jeff Koons moved to New York City where he worked at the Museum of Modern Art whilst establishing himself as an artist. In the 1980’s he began working as a Wall Street commodities broker in order to finance his art projects. He wanted to be independent from the art market and has expressed that: ”I could make exactly what art I wanted to make. And I would always know that I didn’t need the art market.” In the mid-1980’s Jeff Koons gained prominence and recognition as part of a generation of artists who explored the meaning af art in a media-saturated era. He set up a factory-like studio in a SoHo loft with over 30 assistants. Since his first solo exhibition in 1980 Jeff Koon’s work has been shown in major galleries and institutions throughout the world. His work was the subject of a major exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Jeff Koons: A Retrospective in 2014, which traveled to the Centre Pompidou Paris and then further to Guggenheim Bilbao in 2015. His most recent series, Gazing Ball Paintings, was exhibited for the first time at Gagosian Gallery, New York in 2015. The artist has earned renown for his public sculptures, such as the monumental...Category
