Bucranium Mask Arch Plaster Panel

About the Item

This decorative panel consists of a plaster base adorned with bucranium decoration, framed by painted wood. Bucranium, originating from the Greek term meaning 'ox skull,' represents a carved ornamentation frequently employed in Classical architectural designs. The skulls symbolize the ancient Greek and Roman sacrificial ceremonies. Among the renowned ancient instances of sculpted bucranium, a notable example remains preserved on the remaining section of the entablature at the Temple of Vespasian and Titus (dated to the 80s AD) in the Roman Forum. In contemporary usage, these panels serve as decorative plaques, often mounted on walls to enhance aesthetic appeal. Dimensions: 94 x 179 x 8cm Weight: 35 kg Image (interior): @tombunning
