Ruan Hoffmann uses ceramic earthenware as his preferred medium. Ruan Hoffmann chooses familiar objects such as plates as his canvases, however the resulting works are not presented as homey pieces emanating from the domestic sphere but as willful, irregular and misshapen forms on which the artist’s unedited observations on life’s experiences flow in constant, noisy glimpses of thought. Hoffmann adorns the surfaces of his plates with a vast array of images and text that can be unapologetic, politically confrontational, improper and even sometimes rude. It is work that is unashamedly loud, uncompromising and exhilarating.
He’s exhibited worldwide at esteemed locations like the LUX Centre for the Arts, USA; Fondation Thalie, Belgium; The Clay Studio, Philadelphia; The Iziko Museums of South Africa, and more. Contemporary artist Ruan Hoffmann initially studied at the University of Pretoria. He currently lives and works in The Netherlands. Using ceramic earthenware as his preferred medium, Hoffmann molds familiar objects such as plates, containers and tiles into willful, irregular and misshapen forms. Ruan Hoffmann’s masterful ceramics defy norms, inviting viewers into a world of unfiltered emotion and striking visual engagement. The resulting works are not presented as homey pieces emanating from the domestic sphere but as willful, irregular and misshapen forms on which the artist’s unedited observations on life’s experiences flow in constant, noisy glimpses of thought. Hoffmann adorns the surfaces of his plates with a vast array of images and text that can be unapologetic, politically confrontational, improper and even sometimes rude. It is work that is unashamedly loud, uncompromising and exhilarating. The adorned ceramic work expresses the artist Ruan Hoffmann's unedited observations on life's experiences. Developing her technique with porcelain and glass, Seeman channeled her inspirations; resulting in vessels that are both beautiful and macabre. Combinations of muscular and skeletal anatomy and plant forms are the makeup of these sculptural utilitarian vessels. Instead of dwelling on dying, Seeman’s palpable forms culminate in an acute awareness and awe toward life, renewal, nature, and vitality. Shortly after completing her master’s degree in Fine Arts, Seeman was recognized by Galeria OMR in Mexico City, a gallery known for its cutting-edge artists. In effect, Seeman’s porcelain was taken out of the craft context and placed in exhibitions such as ARCO in Madrid, FIAC in Paris, and Art Basel. She shows extensively throughout the United States and was recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation 2005 Biennial Competition Award.
