About the Item

The artist works with handmade ceramic pieces which she makes one by one, without using any molds. The texture seen on each one is done using only her hands, without any tools. She then glazes them and once finished, creates a pattern which she creates at the moment she makes the artwork. The patterns are not premeditated at the moment the ceramic parts are made, rather created at the moment the piece is assembled. This is why it is impossible to have two equal artworks, each one is unique. This piece is a tribute to the artists' time living in New York City and the way it has changed the way in which she perceives the world, herself and her career.

    By Henk Jan Sanderman
    Located in London, Chelsea
Edition of 8 "Break Free Duckling" by Henk Jan Sanderman is a captivating exploration of freedom and liberation, beautifully realized through a stunning fusion of sculpture and painting. This remarkable artwork features a ceramic duckling sculpture breaking free from a bronze cage frame, set against a serene blue canvas backdrop. At the heart of the piece is the charming ceramic duckling, captured in exquisite detail as it emerges triumphantly from the confines of its cage. Sanderman's masterful craftsmanship brings the duckling to life, imbuing it with a sense of determination and vitality. Its pure white feathers contrast starkly against the rich blue tones of the canvas, drawing the viewer's eye to the focal point of the composition. The symbolism of the duckling breaking free from its cage is both poignant and powerful, evoking themes of liberation, resilience, and self-discovery. As the duckling spreads its wings and embarks on a journey of newfound freedom, it serves as a powerful metaphor for breaking through barriers and embracing one's true potential. The bronze cage frame adds a striking visual element to the artwork, with its intricate details and subtle patina lending a sense of depth and texture to the piece. The juxtaposition of the delicate ceramic duckling against the sturdy bronze frame creates a captivating contrast that further emphasizes the theme of liberation. The color scheme of white, black, and blue enhances the sense of tranquility and serenity conveyed by the artwork, evoking the feeling of a clear sky on a bright summer day. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to the composition, creating a sense of movement and vitality. Signed by the artist and ready for display, "Break Free Duckling" is a testament to Sanderman's artistic vision and technical skill.
