1935 Original Art Deco poster by Cassandre - Dubo, Dubon, Dubonnet
By Adolphe Jean-Marie (AM) Cassandre
Located in PARIS, FR
"In triptych form, the mythical Dubo, Dubon, Dubonnet is in a way the ancestor of the animated gif! A simple, poetic visual narrative wrapped in a humorous tone. A silhouette darkens as the Dubo, Dubon, Dubonnet sequence progresses. Some say that it's these gestures and features that have given rise to our image of the aperitif. Cheers, Cassandra!
Today, the Evin law would forbid this type of alcohol promotion, but that hasn't stopped this poster from becoming a cult image, taken up and quoted by every generation of graphic designers. Dubonnet is a brand of vermouth flavored mainly with cinchona, available in red and white. It was created by French chemist Joseph Dubonnet. It was in Paris, near the future site of the Garnier opera house, that Joseph Dubonnet developed his cinchona wine in 1846. To combat malaria, he developed this bitter-tasting medicine, which he masked with a strong-tasting decoction of herbs and spices. Soldiers in the Foreign Legion...

Vintage Free Wheeling Green Lithographed All Tin Racing Car. French, Circa 1930
Located in Incline Village, NV
Circa 1930's free wheeling green lithographed all tin racing car, with attached pressed steel driver; it is probably of French manufacturer (the only time I have seen for sale was from a French toy dealer). This scarce toy has markings resembling early racing cars with the streamlined style graphics in yellow and green; standard grill; exhaust four manifolds to each side, and a spare tire attached to the rear; looks like an early Le Mans type car with the spare (see images). Other markings include the number "3:" on each side; "510 x 1" on the rear tire"; and probably the makers mark and logo, which I can't identify, on the top right behind the driver (see images).
Not being a wind-up or a friction toy, this racing car was pushed across the floor by hand or/and used as an accessory in a toy train layout...

Lucien Charles E. Alliot French Art Deco Bronze The Gazelles 1930
By Lucien Charles Edouard Alliot
Located in Oakland, CA
Lucien Alliot French Art Deco Bronze The Gazelles 1930. The brown patina on a marble base signed on the bronze L Alliot and stamped bronze on the deer. This particular piece has exceptional rhythm where the two gazelles interplay in a movement depicting leaping over the hills or water. Very three-dimensional treatment showing the movement of the animals.
Lucien Charles Eduoard Alliot (1877-1967), the sculptor was born in 1877 in Paris, France. His work was part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1924 Summer Olympics. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, member and the gold medal in 1920, out of competition, and member of the sculpture jury from 1934 to 1939.
