Rare Picasso lithographic exhibition poster depicting "Buste de Femme" (Dora Maar) 1941
Picasso (1881-1973), was a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Picasso demonstrated uncanny artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence; during the first decade of the twentieth century his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. His revolutionary artistic accomplishments brought him universal renown immense fortunes throughout his life, making him the best-known figure in twentieth century prints.
On August 30, 1973, the Simón Bolívar Center created the Caracas Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation to form it as the cultural space of the new Parque Central Housing Complex. It begins its activity on February 20, 1974 with two sculptures by the Venezuelan master Jesús Soto and a collection by renowned artists Adami, Pavlos, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Richard Smith, Marisol Escobar, Giangiacomo Spadari, Emilio Tadini, Lucio del Pezzo and Hervé Télémaque, among others. ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901 –1966) was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman and printmaker and a pillar of 20th century modernity. Giacometti was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. His work was particularly influenced by artistic styles such as Cubism and Surrealism. Philosophical questions about the human condition, as well as existential and phenomenological debates played a significant role in his work. Around 1935 he gave up on his Surrealistic influences in order to pursue a more deepened analysis of figurative compositions.
