Pair of Vintage Italian DSC 106 Side Chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli
By Castelli, Giancarlo Piretti
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This set of two DSC 106 chairs was designed by Giancarla Piretti for the Italian Castelli in 1965. It is one of the best-known models of the brand's chairs and is still an object with an innovative and attractive design. The elegant interweaving of lines that define the forms of the DSC 106 has been admired by generations of architects and interior designers who have always regarded the chair not only for its timeless aesthetic quality, but also for its exceptional functionality and durability. The DSC 106 is concrete proof that Italian design is about more than just creativity, especially when it comes to being able to combine an aesthetic element with ergonomic research, efficiency and usability. This model is an example of the best collaboration between designer Giancarlo Piretti and the historic Italian brand Castelli. The structure is made of metal, and the seat and backrest are made of bent plywood upholstered with high-quality black vinyl. Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. After studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Academy of Bologna, he began working as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli, designing furniture for both home and office use. During his twelve years at Castelli, Piretti obtained numerous industrial patents for his designs, which were dominated by chairs. Piretti's work for Castelli has earned the company an international reputation in the field of furniture design. His most famous design is the folding plastic Plia Chair (1968). Other famous designs include the DCS 106 stacking chair (1965), Plona lounge chair (1969), Alky chair (1970), Plantone folding desk (1970), Plano (1971, IBD Gold Medal), Planto clothes hanger (1972), modular System 61 sofa system (1973), Xylon...

Torquato Castellani Majolica Renaissance Revival Tin-Glazed Charger
By Castellani
Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
An exceptional Italian Renaissance revival maiolica tin-glazed charger painted with a side profile portrait of a lady manufactured in Rome by Torquato Castellani and dated 1881. Maiolica (or majolica) is a term traditionally applied to a type of tin-glazed earthenware, popular in Italy during the Renaissance. However this was revived in the 19th century with a demand for bright and colorful statement pieces and potteries across Europe all involved in the production of such wares. Torquato and Olga Castellani were active during this period of revival. This lightly potted charger is decorated with a side on portrait of a lady in medieval dress...
