Celine Gabrielle

Canadian
As a child of the 80's/90's not only was Celine influenced by the bold, in-your-face neon colours, big shoulder pads and modern technology take-over, she was also greatly influenced by both her baby boomer parents and grandparents. Her vibrant works are very inspired by pop culture, fashion, style, design and architecture across many generations as far back as the 1920's Art Deco and flapper girls right through to the 2000's mega stars such as Lady Gaga and the haute couture trends of today. As a self-taught artist, Celine is influenced by the well-known artists she had access to—many who are popularized in pop culture like Tamara de Lempicka, Rene Magritte, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso. Her work takes from the artist’s obsession with fashion. More specifically, fashion’s role as a form of how we tell the world who we are, or maybe who we aspire to be. In the artist’s own words, “Sometimes it speaks our culture and can connect us to a place or time in history. Sometimes it blurs the lines of all that. It always tells a story.” Celine’s work process often begins with an image or a piece of clothing that inspires her. Quoting the artist’s words, “It has to speak to me. I’m slow. I work in many layers. I start with acrylic to block in main colours and shapes quickly. Then I switch to oils. I take my time carefully studying my references and refining section by section. I love that my paintings look realistic from far, but up close as I work it's just abstract colour and shapes—like an illusion.” “I create because it’s fun; it challenges me and gives me energy. I’m a champion of colour and exuberance. I want the joy and pleasure I have making my works to go with them. Like coming home to a bouquet of wildflowers on the kitchen table¬—an unexpected pop, a wow moment on an ordinary day.”

Parisian Model
By Max Weber
Located in Palm Desert, CA
"Parisian Model" is an oil on canvas painting by Max Weber painted in 1908. The work is signed and dated, lower right, "Max Weber Paris 1908". The painting size is 35 1/2 x 19 5/8 inches. The framed size is 43 x 27 x 2 1/4 inches. "Parisian Model" was painted in 1908, when Weber participated in a life class in Matisse's studio in Paris and painted several nudes. Weber was influenced toward a more Cubist styler after seeing Cezanne's work in the 1906-07 Salon in Paris, and he consorted within avant-garde circles in Paris as early as 1905. After returning to the US in 1909, Weber was credited with showing American audiences Cubism based on his firsthand knowledge of the key players and the style. Several drawings of Weber's from this time are in museum collections at The Met, the Smithsonian, and MoMA and show a similar style and stocatto gesture. Parisian paintings by Max Weber are extremely rare as there are hardly any that have sold publicly. Provenance: Estate of the Artist Gerald Peters Gallery...

19th century French, Surrender of the French at Huningen Fort to the Austrians
Located in Woodbury, CT
Wonderful French period copy of the famous painting by Jean-Baptiste Édouard Detaille, which the original is now in a museum in Paris. This piece came from a private collection in New Jersey where it had been since it was purchased in France back in the 1950s. The previous owner was an Art dealer in NYC during the 1950s-70s and she kept some of her favorite paintings, this being one of them. The piece was re-framed in the 1990s In 35 years of dealing in paintings, I have never seen another example of this scene, it is very rare.! History of the scene: In the Siege of Hüningen (27 November 1796 – 1 February 1797), the Austrians captured the city from the French. Hüningen is in the present-day Department of Haut-Rhin, France. Its fortress lay approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of the Swiss city of Basel and .5 miles (0.80 km) north of the spot where the present-day borders of Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. During the time of this siege, the village was part of the Canton of Basel City and the fortress lay in an area contested between the German states and the First French Republic. The siege occurred within the French Revolutionary Wars during which Revolutionary France ranged...
