Daniel Chester French

American, 1850-1931

Daniel Chester French, most famed for his beloved figure of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., is a rare find. The Memorial, in Concord, Massachusetts, is considered to be the French's finest depiction of the idealized female form. Located in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, it was commissioned by James C. Melvin, a successful Boston businessman, to memorialize his three brothers who died in the Civil War.
